I was invited by a friend who owns a nursing home in town for their new opening of their business. I was truly impressed with the decor and amenities of the nursing home. Nursing homes are popular here – as there are a lot of retirees in our area but this nursing home also deal with those who are bedridden and sick. I read in their brochure about Mesothelioma sufferers – and other illnesses – how they are taken care of in this nursing homes.

Many people think that putting your loved ones or sick ones in a nursing home is cruel but that`s so not true – because if you had seen the facilities and all the health equipment provided in this home – you would understand how much more they would be cared for here. They have professional nurses and registered doctors that comes in every day – and they have all sorts of activities for those living here. I really think that it is beneficial for those who needs special care to be here – more than at home – afterall, who at home has the training to care for the elderly and the sick right? True is it expensive – because the spouse’s grandmother was in one too – but it was definitely worth every penny we had spent. So yes homes for the sick are not evil at all – in fact i think they are the ideal place for them. If i were old and sick – i won’t want to be a burden to my children – i want them to have a life too.

Aussino Unique Sheets

I love Aussino so much – I had to ask my friends from home to buy some for me when they go on sale – and mail them to me. Aussino has the best looking sheets – best designs but I have to say that they may not feel as good as fleece sheets. So I only use them during the summer – because the kids don’t like hard sheets.

I so missed this store – from home – and they don’t even have an online store – what a pity for all of us Aussino’s fan! If you know an online place where I can buy Aussino sheets in Canada or US – please drop me a line or a comment. Did i tell you that Aussino sheets are very affordable too – i used to buy them in dozens when they go on sale.

Cigar Butt Stand

The in-laws and the relatives love their baccarat cigars or just about any kind of cigars and the only time they can smoke it is outside my house. But they have a really bad habit – after smoking they like to throw their cigar butts at the front of my house near the steps – where they hang around smoking it. So when I saw these cigar butt stand in a yard sale – i had to get it – to put outside my house and another for them to put at home – it was definitely the best father’s day present for the in-law’s. I really don’t mind the smell of the cigar – in fact i like it better than the cigarettes – but the butts they definitely annoy me to see them all over the front steps. And how do one tell their in-laws not to litter the place right? so it was pretty obvious when i put that cigar butt stand out – haha! now if they still do litter – I can scream at someone – not the in-laws but the spouse – hahah!

Cottage Homes

We were at a friend’s cottage home – a few Sundays ago – you see summer cottages are cheap here and friends from United States spends their summer here. A place by the ocean is nice and cheap and who wouldn’t want to spend time in the sun and sea all summer right – plus the standard of living is low here as compared to the city in United States. But this cottage needs some fixing and a distributor water filter is a must for this cottages – because they mostly use well water.

The cottage is well – furnished but mannnn!! the water condition in my humble opinion is not the best. All they need is a good water filter in their home and they will be all set. I don’t know if they have a water filter distributor here – but if they can find one – they can even be in business for it. I bet the other cottages around Nova Scotia and PEI can use some. Only the town has town water that are filtered here – but not in the country i think. Good thing they had bottled water to drink when we were there.

Simple Table Setting

We had a simple get together – just us adults with some really close family friends and relatives – not very many people but a table of 20. So I did some simple table setting to end the summer – with a dinner. We farmed the kids out to a friend’s house with the babysitters – that way we can have a night of chatting and eating some good food.

It’s always nice to be able to have some good friends in the house – and dressing up the house once in a while – afterall, a home is for entertaining right.

The spouse may not like the entertaining that much but once every few months is a must – the house needs to be filled with laughter, good food and some wine.

So out came some summery flowers and table settings from the basement and here it is – not that hard – if you give your creative juice some working.

I started my collection some 15 yrs ago – so if you buy a few things at a time – you will get where i am – that was what i told my friends and family when they were here last weekend.

Doesn’t really take much to make a place pretty – if you really want to show off your home.

Paper Lanterns For The Loft

We have a loft just on top of our garage that we had turned into for the kids – to hang out and to play their drums. For the longest time – we didn’t do much except throw a bit of cushion and a futon around – but the kids wanted to turn them into like a game room – and a place to entertain their own friends. When I saw this decor in a restaurant we had gone to – I took this idea – and used paper lantern and filled the loft with them. Now to get the lights inside some of them – and we will be all set – so that the girls can have their little corner as well. Yes ! asian influence and the girls loved them – they now think that i’m a genius – hahah!

Condos Investment

The spouse and I looked into investing in some properties that were newly built in the city and we went for a viewing last week. The open house was during the weekend and it was a nice little place – a little ways from the middle of the city and the price seems reasonable enough for us.

They said this year is for the buyer’s or buyer’s market as they called it – but such a huge investment needs re-thinking and re-planning.

We figured if we buy this for investment for now and when we decide to move to the city – this could be our own home? So it’s not really a waste if we don’t get to rent it out as often as we want.

What do you think? a condo investment is a huge commitment – we have to tighten our belts and no more Louis Vuitton for me for the time being.

Full Bloom @ Summer 2010

This summer we were expecting full bloom at our home but instead this full bloom were at my neighbor’s house – darn! How do they do that I don’t know ! afterall, we do have the same piece of land no? Even their grass seems to do better than ours – we are so envious. Love the flowers, so we asked them what the secret was – guess – lots of tender loving care – so they said.

Summer Vacation

We haven’t taken our summer vacation as planned – due to various reasons but it never stopped us from checking out various options before the summer ends. The kids said to us last night that we have to have a vacation in a hoteellll! hahah! So like any dutiful parents we are currently looking for options – like Branson vacation packages.

We can’t go for a long time because of work – the spouse – and we do have to prepare for school soon – so a 4 days 3 nights vacation is what we are looking for. Branson has theme parks, hiking and boating for the kids – plus live entertainment for us adults. I hear that they start as low as $49 !! tonight – I’m going to have to discuss this with the spouse. The kids are excited – they do deserve a short break right.

BBQ Weather

Preparing for our yearly BBQ last week – i ended up decorating my backyard a wee bit to welcome all the guest that i invited. Friends and family in the neighborhood were all invited for our yearly BBQ. Weather was so awesome last week – we were really glad it all turned out good.
