I was invited by a friend who owns a nursing home in town for their new opening of their business.  I was truly impressed with the decor and amenities of the nursing home.  Nursing homes are popular here – as there are a lot of retirees in our area but this nursing home also deal with those who are bedridden and sick.  I read in their brochure about Mesothelioma sufferers – and other illnesses  – how they are taken care of in this nursing homes.

Many people think that putting your loved ones or sick ones in a nursing home is cruel but that`s so not true – because if you had seen the facilities and all the health equipment provided in this home – you would understand how much more they would be cared for here.  They have professional nurses and registered doctors that comes in every day – and they have all sorts of activities for those living here.  I really think that it is beneficial for those who needs special care to be here – more than at home – afterall, who at home has the training to care for the elderly and the sick right?  True is it expensive – because the spouse’s grandmother was in one too – but it was definitely worth every penny we had spent.  So yes homes for the sick are not evil at all – in fact i think they are the ideal place for them.  If i were old and sick – i won’t want to be a burden to my children – i want them to have a life too.

We can’t go for a long time because of work – the spouse – and we do have to prepare for school soon – so a 4 days 3 nights vacation is what we are looking for.  Branson has theme parks, hiking and boating for the kids – plus live entertainment for us adults.  I hear that they start as low as $49 !! tonight – I’m going to have to discuss this with the spouse.  The kids are excited – they do deserve a short break right.

We used an oil furnace at home and every year around this time – we get it cleaned up and have the furnace filters changed.  The reason why we choose this time to have it checked and cleaned is because – this is the time whereby most of the furnace guys are not that busy.  Plus it will turn cold really soon here in Nova Scotia – faster than we think – and before you know it – you may have forgotten about it or too busy for doing your Halloween and Christmas shopping.

So this time of the year – while it is not too hot anymore – we call in our furnace guys and get them in to take a look at it and have the furnace filters changed – not only to upkeep the furnace but to stay safe. And the best way to avoid been caught off guard should the furnace break down in the middle of a cold winter – is to get it inspected and serviced yearly.  We find that not only do we get a peace of mind – we also safe on big repairs all of a sudden.

You don’t see me buying lots of rugs for our home – why?  because i don’t like the dust in the first place and they get old and their color fades – badly.  I find it such a waste to throw them out but it’s worst to try and clean it.  I remember when we first got married and bought our own home – our first home – it was kinda hard on us – because we were young and didn’t know better. A friend told us about po finance for the spouse’s business and that definitely helped us into putting our finances in a much better shape and then we were able to do more for our home and for our kids.

Anyhow, I found out more about how one can bring your old rug back to live and I was ecstatic and just had to share it with you. You don’t even need to spend a lot of money on it either.  Some hot water and salt in equal parts and then apply it to your rug with a damp cloth – now how hard is that right?  The salt is said to help brighten the color of your rug and the hot water helps to keep it that way.  But hang on a min – before you plunge into the project – give your rug a spot test in case yours cannot take the hot water.   Some said to use a dry towl to place over the areas to help blot out any excess moisture – you can just get the kids to walk on it and that’s all you need to do.

Another tip you may find handy is if you wanna clean your old rug – try bringing it to a car wash – give it a good scrubbing there with some salt – and you don’t have to dirty your bath tub – woohoo!

Coming home to a freshly mowed lawn – with you or the spouse not mowing it – is a pretty awesome feeling.  Plus this mowed lawn was done so well by a friend who came to help because we were so busy at work – definitely was a bonus. So if you can’t mow your lawn in the summer – instead of letting it grow to some unsightly looking grass – best to either pay a kid to mow your lawn – in which you probably have to trim it up a bit or enlist the help of a friend who loves the outdoor.  So now i won’t need any  sleep aids from worrying so much about cleaning and trimming the house and lose lots of sleeps.  Delegation is the key word here.

I don’t know Tobias Wong personally but I certainly followed his designs for a long time – like this Sun jar that i saw at Apartment Therapy a few years ago – while looking for diets for quick weight loss.  Tobias Wong was only 35 – too young to die in my opinion and no one said why he died or how he died.  Too sad!   Too many bad news this week – sends me into a depressing mode – what about you?  why did God take such a talented and vibrant young man?

The neighbor’s cat and dogs had been coming by our house often these days – they let them loose to roam the streets – all times of the day.  We found cat poop and dog poop  in our lawn and in our backyard – it is quite frustrating if you asked me – and even though i tried to ignore it – it’s hard when summer is on its way – and we do a lot of BBQing and have friends over.  It’s quite embarrassing – when a friend’s kid comes up and tell you – your garden stinks!  hahah!!

So when i was reading up on testosterone booster one day in the garden – having a coffee – i came across an article on how one can elimate outdoor odors with oats.  You see oats is not only cheap – it is natural and safe for your kids and pets – one can buy them in bulk and sprinkle them all over the areas that you think is stinky.  So what does the oats do?  They soak up the smell and compost themselves back into the soil – so there you have the remedy to help your surroundings smell good.  Yes – it does the same for those who have friends or families who loves to smoke and throw their cigarette butts in your front door or back yard.

Owners Roman & Sonja Kurylak are from Europe but they  are in Canada and turned this lovely property into a golf resort for the golf lovers.  You cannot find anything as cheap and as good anywhere in the world.   You have to see this property to love it.   Half and hour away from the town of Yarmouth – I would love to send some of my friends there from Asia there when they visit – they are equipped with internet access, a kitchen, fireplace and a large sundeck over looking the golf course, i bet they have a pulse oximeter there too if you ask for one.  Cottage rental starts as low as $1500 per week.   Leave me a comment if you want to know where to locate this property.

Yes, we are pretty busy preparing for Easter this weekend but the weather was so nice last week, i was tempted to get our outdoor furniture out into our backyard.  But I know the weather was just teasing us and a good thing we didn’t do it because this week – it was rain and we even had a hail storm earlier.  It’s wet, wet, wet here.  We did finally buy our patio set last year but we only sat on it once because it was just too cold out at the backyard – so this year – we might just leave it in front and forget about the bugs.  We even bought a bug zapper but it didn’t seems to help that much either.   So even with such nice scenery at the backyard – we can’t even enjoy it.

A curio cabinet for only $200 is a steal – now if only we haven’t bought one for the in-laws a few years ago – this would have been perfect for her.  $200 is really too good to say no – i will give up my best wrinkle cream if i had to  – to buy this curio cabinet.  This is no ordinary curio cabinet because it was handmade and you don’t see this kind of work anymore by anyone and costing so little.  So if you are in a market for something like that – make sure you check out your local yard sale – we got ours for a steal.  Move along wicker emporium!
