Table Linens For Christmas Dinner

Halloween is over and it’s that time of the year to prepare for Christmas dinner and parties for the office. We always have the entire family out on Christmas day and on Boxing day the entire office. I buy matouk linens because they are the best when quality is concern. You see – I only know about table dressing after coming to Canada and when you have huge extended family – you kinda need to host dinners and parties all the time. Christmas is a huge event at our home – and we want to impress too right – so I always buy a new set every year. I love them!

Towels for Guests

I don’t know about you but at my home – i make sure we have fresh guest’s towels at our home all the time and if my house guest/s needs wrinkle creams i can provide that too – hahah! But yes, do you keep your towels and the guest/s one separate? or do you let your house guest/s use yours as well?

I find that it is more personable if you have the guest/s towels in their guest/s bathroom – but what if you have a common bathroom and no guest/s bathroom. Now that can be tricky eh? I’ll go hunt for towels with “guest/s” written or sewn on it. I can’t imagine wanting to use the host’s personal towels - would you? So when i saw some for sale – i always buy them and keep them. What about you?

Antique Dresser

This antique dresser is made with a marble top and i am in love with it – but seller wants about $300 for it and I’m just not willing to part with so much money. But such a rare find and what a pity that I can’t get it – so here i am reading about diet aid and drooling about this antique dresser. I wonder if there was a way i can blackmail the spouse to get this for me for an early birthday present? the in – laws gave me some chinese table runners as a early birthday present today now that would be perfect for the dresser – hahah! If you look carefully – the dresser’s knobs are in perfect shape and the seller obviously had taken care of this unique antique dresser – now to find a way to buy it.

Cloth Or Paper?

I’ve often wonder how people use cloth napkins clean them and what kind of mess the guests would leave behind with their cloth napkins. So I started thinking, should i use paper or cloth for my coming festivities? It would be a lot easier to use paper of course, afterall, paper napkins are just as fanciful these days. A big elaborate christmas dinner or new year’s eve dinner is not what i had planned.. so if you are thinking i need some slimming pills , well, probably not. Now had i been in Asia then i cannot guarantee that I won’t need any, since food is always so good home.

I guess it boils down to who you are inviting – for example, i won’t use this when the outlaws are invited – haha! but for close friends or business associates – sure! go right ahead and impress, for i think they will really appreciate, some fancy but not so expensive napkins. And make sure they don’t stain easy too, else you practically have to use the napkins for a wash cloth.

Dinner Party Extender

Finally i found a party table extender for this Christmas since the in-laws are coming over for Christmas dinner at our place. Putting away my new tuxedo for a family dinner this year instead of celebrating at the hotel, maybe a cheaper alternative for everyone in the family. But instead of buying another table, we decided to get a dinner party extender, that can easily fit up to 8 people instead of our regular 4.

This party table extender is easily found back home but not so here in the west, so when i found it on Grandin Road, i was very happy, you can bring it out when you need it.. or store it away after your Christmas dinner. At $79.99 for a 48″ and $99.99 for a 54″, definitely beats buying another table just for one day of celebration or you already have a small space or small dining room.

Scarey Apples For Halloween

While we are at Halloween dressing up for the house, I thought this might be a great center piece for Halloween day as well. So how does one make their apple black and glossy red. The above is the creation of Matt’s bite, so if you want some spooky apple, follow the recipe below or head over to their blog.

Red & Black Candy Apples

8-10 medium sized apples
8-10 wooden twigs, twimmed
3 cups granulated sugar
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1 cup of water
several drops of cinnamon flavored oil
1/4 teaspoon of red food coloring
1/4 teaspoon of black food coloring
Clean and dry the apples. Try to remove as much of the wax as possible. If you purchase them from your local farmer’s market then chances are they have not been treated with the food grade wax that makes then shine. Remove any stems or leaves and insert a twig into the end of each apple. To facilitate easier twig entry you can carefully sharpen the end of the twig or use a candy stick to create a guide hole. Set apples aside.

Heat and stir sugar, corn syrup and water in a saucepan until sugar has dissolved. Boil until the syrup reaches 300 degrees on a candy thermometer. Don’t go over 310 degrees or your candy burns and then you’ll be sad.

Remove from heat and stir in flavored oil and food coloring.

Dip one apple completely in the syrup and swirl it so that it becomes coated with the melted sugar candy. Hold the apple above the saucepan to drain off excess. Place apple, with the stick facing up, onto a baking sheet that’s greased or lined with a silpat. Repeat the process with the remaining apples. If your syrup thickens or cools too much, simply reheat briefly before proceeding. Let the apples cool completely before serving.

No silly ! it’s not the cereal I was talking about but this lovely but very expensive chromed fruit/apple basket. It is hand crafted and a fruit bowl it is called, made from a single piece of free flowing steel wire. Pretty unique and I’ll have to say, it must be some hard work there to sculpt something so neat as this for the dining table or the living room. You and I know that your friends and family would love it and will ask you where you got it from. Can be bought at Black + Blum at $40 (individually boxed) and great for a host present for housewarming.

A pretty unique side table.. and can definitely be a piece that other woman will envy when they come by my house for tea or just a visit. So artistic.. and quite girlish looking.. and will definitely make one’s home and house even more lovelier and fill with the taste of the lady of the house. Christmas Table Dressing

At $5.99 .. i’ve decided to use this for my Christmas buffet table dressing for my Christmas dinner. This year.. we are probably gonna have it at our place.. so I need to decorate abit… even though i doubt some people would even noticed it.
