At $25 I’m so getting these plastic made solar lantern for my garden  – I’m sure my outdoor garden would look fabulous with these lantern – so simple yet so dramatic looking.   And since this is solar powered – you don’t have to worry about wiring them at all.  One can buy it from Allsop Home and Garden in US, free shipping for orders over $75.  In case you are wondering how big the solar lantern is – it is 10″ by 10″ by 10″.

Shell lamps like this one is not uncommon – in fact during the 80s  – they were really popular – so when I saw them at our local Wicker’s Emporium – I cannot helped but think of the shell lamp that I had so admired when I was a kid at my mom’s friend home.  I think they had gotten theirs from a holiday trip they took in Philippines – and I think whoever designed this lamp must either be inspired by a Filipino or is an Asian.

It’s very pretty – but for a pair even on sale it would cost me close to $200 – so I didn’t buy it now – I will wait for a clearance before getting it.  For now I would just have to enjoy my shell chime that I had bought and hung on my windows.

More dressing up for christmas around the house during the weekend.  We found some really good buys at Canadian Tire and I of course went crazy! I’m waiting for the 50% sale nearing Christmas to get more stuff.

As usual – this Christmas – we will be doing a lot of entertaining – and the baking begins on the 1st Dec – presents for the kids friends and teachers.

Yes! it’s that time of the year again – where we all have to turn up our heat – and yes! we don’t like it – but on certain days – it can get really cold and we have no choice but to use the heat.   Every year we try our best to save on our power bills – you see ours is electric heat around the house – so it can get really tricky and expensive.  When the kids were younger – we had no choice but to keep the rooms really warm – to keep them safe and healthy – we didn’t want them to get sick.  But now that they are much older – we encouraged them to put on sweaters and cover themselves with more blankets.

Other ways that we try and save on our power bills is to make sure that the windows and doors are sealed properly and we change the air filter monthly.  We also make sure that there is no draft coming in from anywhere – and seal off as much as possible.  For washing our clothes now -  we only use cold water.   We have to install a programmable thermostat too.  So lets hope these methods can help you too.

We have a loft just on top of our garage that we had turned into for the kids – to hang out and to play their drums.  For the longest time – we didn’t do much except throw a bit of cushion and a futon around – but the kids wanted to turn them into like a game room – and a place to entertain their own friends.  When I saw this decor in a restaurant we had gone to – I took this idea – and used paper lantern  and filled the loft with them.  Now to get the lights inside some of them – and we will be all set – so that the girls can have their little corner as well.   Yes ! asian influence and the girls loved them – they now think that i’m a genius – hahah!

My mother used to say that the entrance to any doorway should be lighted up – even the way to a stairway.  I’ve always wanted a light to fit the passageway to our upstairs of our home but never found something I liked.  For months i was looking for something – of the new generation type and then i saw one like a chandelier type at a girlfriend’s house and it strike me that i didn’t need a funky looking light for tha passageway – a nice and simple chandelier might just do the work.  So while the spouse went looking for a micro sd , i ran along to the lighting stores a few storeys higher to look for the right one.  It looks quite elaborate the one i found but actually it isn’t -  the spouse didn’t want to spend too much on that light – so i’m glad i didn’t spend to much.  Try Kent if you are looking for cheap chandeliers.

Our tv room’s table lamp had been broken for a long time now – i only recently noticed it a lot more because we have been using the tv room more.  So when I was looking for some ellipticals with a girlfriend – we went over to the local mall to hunt for some lamp shades.   But alas, there were lots of lamps to be sold but not lamp shades and the ones that i found were as expensive as the entire lamp itself – i might as well buy the lamp.

Thank God for Ikea – although we don’t have one in town – one can buy them online – for less than $10  – but what hurts most about buying online is the shipping charge – and because I’m in a remote area in Canada – the shipping cost an arm and a leg – no winning situation for me eh.   So instead – I’m waiting because we are heading up the city next week – i will go look for some then.

Arty farty things are the stuff i liked – but for $145 for this – ohhh! it breaks my heart to have to spend so much for a lamp like that.  Given it is a designer lamp but – but !  my spouse would probably divorce me – hahah! I saw this lamp while looking for some American Standard toilets and got distracted like I always do.

Never too early for Christmas, I’ve always argued with the spouse, just like those who buys the Wii now for their children, I decorate now for Christmas.   But it’s not the Christmas decor that caught my eyes at the Pottery Barn but this mood lamp that one can use on Christmas and throughout the year.

A wee bit expensive for my liking but i think it will be used all year round and all kind of festive seasons.  At $79 for the smallest right up to $129 for the biggest of this star light lamp.  Use it indoors or outdoors and if you like as a table decoration.

This caught my eyes immediately until of course i saw the price of it.. and i had to stop myself from oogling it. For the price of buying this paper lamp abelt gorgeous, i can actually get something from Kettlebell for the spouse, which would be a lot more useful for him.

But having said that, i’m pretty sure a lot of people will be able to afford it and would love to buy it.
