I’ve had an old back injury for the longest time – I think more than 20 years now.  I was moving to a new home and a new office simultaneously and hurt my back accidentally.  But I had seen a chiropractor for the longest time  and even though it helped a bit – it didn’t really cured my back.  When I moved to Canada – the spouse had bought a very expensive king size bed that supports back injury like I did but after so many years now – I’m waking up with a very bad sore in the morning.  So we figured it was time to either look into a back surgery laser kind – that is less invasive or look for another bed that might work for a few years.

I read that a laser spine surgery can correct an injured spine and any spine abnormalities – and it’s like a day surgery – so instead of buying another bed for my back problem, I’m checking this laser surgery for spine out first but of course, I think I need to change my mattress – my old one is about 7 yrs old now – so time for a change – but if I did the laser surgery for my spine – I just gotta get a good mattress and not a more expensive one – just for sore back.

I guess when you teach them young to organize their own room and then the study when they were in their teenage years – you get a kid who is into organizing all the time.   She said she didn’t mind it at all – because it gets her moving and she needed the exercise plus she does find some gems when she does the re-organizing.   My kids are all hard working kids and it’s because I’ve instilled organizing skills in all of them – I’m happy to say that they would have no trouble with a little hard work when the time arises.

When you have several girls in the house – you kinda have to organize their rooms every now and then – even if they don’t like it.  Why?  well, you know how kids are – even though they are teenagers – they still need to keep their room somewhat clean – so that they know where everything is – for example their bathroom.  They have all sorts of make up and creams for their faces but first thing in the morning – you hear them scream for their pimple cream because they need to  get rid of pimples before going to school.  So like any moms – we sneak in and keep their things organize – so that the mornings are not so chaotic  – and everyone can get to school on time.

On the same note – moms need to keep tab on what they are putting on their faces too right – and check on the expiry dates on these pimple creams and sun-tan lotions – for they don’t know how to throw things away – when they are out of date.  One of my girls – have pimple problems and because of that I’m extra careful with the surroundings of her bedroom – and her toiletries – I also don’t want the younger ones to experiment with the creams they are not supposed to be using – since they share the same bathroom.   So organizing the girls’ room secretly – becomes a monthly task for me – but I don’t make a big fuss about it – I just throw the expired stuff out and put them in boxes and named stuff – so they know exactly where to get them.

Recommended on a magazine here – I went ahead to order it from Chapters – this multi message board is great when you have kids who can have their photos or their friends and anything they want to pin up in their room instead of all wanting to use the fridge.  The youngest kid loves handicraft – so it would be a great way to show off her work and the bulletin board can be used for us to write her spelling words on – for her to practice everyday.   $39 – the board is not very huge though – but it will work for now.  Oh did i mention that shipping is free at Chapters within Canada – if order is above $25.

Since we are almost done fixing the basement – I thought maybe we can remodel the daughter’s room a little bit.  I’ve always loved window seats but because of the heater  – where the windows currently are – we can make any window seat at all.  So we’ve gotta a electrician to move the heater to another corner of the room and then we are going to put up some nice and cozy cushions for the daughter’s room – so that she can enjoy reading while in her bedroom.  Every girl needs their little window seat – don’t you think.  I’m so excited about it.

Wished I could find some gems like this in our local yard sale ! isn’t this a very pretty dresser?  found by Apartment Therapy in Washington DC.  $200 and painted as well – I think I love the baby blue color a lot.

The girls asked for jewelry boxes for this Easter, so I thought about it and decided to get them a personalized jewelry box with their names on each of them.  You know when you have a few girls at home, you need to make sure that they get their own stuff – without mixing them up.  When my girls were young, they all asked for the ballerina inside the jewelry boxes that they want but as they grew older, of course – that jewelry box don’t work no more – it was too childish for them – they want something bigger and more sophisticated.  So instead of waiting for last minute shopping, I’m buying them online and making sure they arrive on time before Easter.  The girls did well this term, so it is time to give them a little reward.

The daughter’s New Year’s wish is to get her bedroom and her study organized and looking like the above picture.  See works part-time at Macdonald’s and I was informed early this month that she had money saved up to buy stuff that she needed for her study area in the room.  She also informed us that she wanted our  brother printers to be moved to the main study and all the papers and toners that are in her room to be moved out by the end of the week.  That’s reasonable I though  – but where then can we put a printer – because she does need it for printing out her school work.  But she said that the printer did have any space on her desk and sitting on the floor of her bedroom isn’t an option.  I offered to buy her a side table near her study desk for the printers – but she insist she wanted the way she said.  I guess my daughter is growing up – and refuses to let her brothers walk into her room anytime they want.   So yes! i have to find a place for those printers.  Lucky for me the brother printers are not bulky at all  – so I think I can fit them in our study instead.

This bedroom set was on sale in a local place – I’ll have to say it’s pretty vintage right?  I was so tempted to buy it – although I know the spouse wouldn’t like the design but I’m such a sucker for vintage stuff.  Look at the four poles on the bed – remind me so much of the 1800s – where only the princesses and queens get to sleep in this kind of bed.  Nostalgia -  a little – hahah!

My kids had asked me about our chinese wedding which obviously took place before they were born – after going through our wedding album for like 100 times.  They would giggle and make fun of us – and my daughter asked me if she had to have the same ritual if she gets married.

A Chinese wedding is definitely different from a Western wedding – in the bedroom – things are red – from the bedsheets to the covers and then we also put some sweet candies onto the bed for good luck.  Unlike the western wedding – friends may make fun of the groom and bride by putting male enhancement product in their bedroom – but the Chinese wedding bedroom is all about good luck stuff.   The older folks like the in-laws would place coconuts under the bed to symbolize having grandsons really soon.

And even if you had your wedding in a hotel – the wedding suite would all be red in color like the picture above.

Of course, you also get to eat this glutinous rice balls with your newly wed spouse – to symbolize togetherness.  The Chinese culture is definitely a very interesting one – I don’t know what I will do for my kids wedding – but i hope at least the girls will wear cheong sam and the daughter in laws as well.  Afterall, my children are half chinese and we should embrace our chinese culture right?
