Bonzai Madness For Spring

Posted by Trendy Chick on March 15th, 2010

I never had green thumbs and even when i needed to re pot the plants at the store – i asked the in-laws to help.  I grew up watching my grandfather trimmed bonzai and know how expensive they are and we never touched them when we were kids.  But you see this spring the spouse just came back from China – business trip and saw an outdoor bonzai and decided that this spring – we should get indoors and outdoors bonzai.  So instead of helping the best friend with her first communion invitations i excused myself and followed the spouse to get some bonzai so that he can turn into a florist.

This potted bonzai we bought wasn’t that expensive – because we had bought it from a wholesaler in town – the spouse was really keen on starting and had gotten all sorts of tips from the wholesaler. Bonzai we learned originated from a chinese word “punsai” means tree in a pot.  The chinese were the ones who grew these Bonzai first and then brought this practice to Japan some many centuries ago.   Growing the Bonzai is actually an art – and only the most cultured according to this wholesaler who happened to be a japanese is for the most patient.   We have lots to learn yet – but if you have any tips, feel free to leave a comment.
